1. mixing at low levels is essential. it saves your ears and your...

composition showreel
here’s a showreel i’ve put together of my recent music composition work, featuring a couple of short films, a charity ad, an orchestral collaboration and a corporate video. i’m gonna start punting it out to interested parties in the next few weeks, and we’ll see what happens. woop!

little steps
got max/msp out on the train back from the south yesterday, and started writing a step sequencer for the monome 40h, something that i’ve been trying to do for a good few years (i believe it’s attempt 6 or so). every rewrite has got more and more efficient, and the code above is the best interation of it so far. no current monome step sequencers do what i want this one do...

merry christmas and a happy new year
as 2009 draws to a close it’s time to reflect, refresh and regroup. i feel there’s so much still to achieve during my time on the planet, and although i might not do all of it, i’m going to give it as good a go as i can. liese and i had a pub lunch and talked plans for the year today, which was great, although a year is a remarkably short...
golden hour
had a wonderful night at the forest cafe in edinburgh last night, watching liese perform a story for the monthly golden hour, an artistic “happening” that lasts far more than an hour but is quite definitely golden. the cafe is beautiful, sketches such as the above adorn the walls and there’s great vegetarian food and cakes. best of all, the night’s proprieter...

a lovely quote on the “laws” of beauty by the erudite mark vernon, whose book on friendship i’m dipping in and out of. i’d love to make an album that embodies and reflects these 10 qualifications. in fact, maybe i will.
