golden hour
had a wonderful night at the forest cafe in edinburgh last night, watching liese perform a story for the monthly golden hour, an artistic “happening” that lasts far more than an hour but is quite definitely golden. the cafe is beautiful, sketches such as the above adorn the walls and there’s great vegetarian food and cakes. best of all, the night’s proprieter ryan van winkle is one of the loveliest men on the planet, and held court all night, clutching a bottle of wine and dishing out free samples at random intervals. as well as great stories from my wonderful girlfriend and rodge glass, there was a choir, a three piece folk band, some brilliant animations and a film from a canadian who couldn’t be there. all quality, all free.
we’ll be playing there with maple leaves next month, and i can’t wait, although under fire from ryan i accidentally agreed to write a new verse to the billy joel song “we didn’t start the fire”, to cover the period 1990 - 1991. anyone know what happened then? i was six at the time.
